El Niño floods shut Piura schools and markets

Heavy El Niño-linked rain has flooded Piura and nearby northern Peru districts since Oct. 20, 2026, shutting schools and commercial galleries. Emergency crews are clearing drains and pumping water, but more rain is forecast and no death, injury or displacement figures have been released.
